1/16

Finally a better day. :slight_smile: Only sent out two but both came home on the board.

[color=blue]Dizzy Rhythm (3YO, Worth My While x Earth Angel) won his first start in a 9.5f NW3 on dirt for 3YO against a full field of fourteen horses. Can’t complain about that!

[color=green]Cloudwalker (5YO, created) contested a $20,000 12f turf claimer for 4YO+, placing 2nd/6 and going unclaimed. He seems to be performing pretty solidly in the claimers, so maybe there is hope I can work him up to being successful in the open allowances. But hey, if he just wants to keep chipping away at my debt, I can deal with that, too.

Very nice day for us - only 4 out of the top 4, and a couple of stakes wins. :slight_smile:

WINS:
[color=red]Celtic Crystal (3yo, Crystal Rainbow) in a NW1, breaking her maiden.

[color=blue]As You Like (3yo, As You Wish) in an OA. Might try him in a stakes next.

[color=blue]Damon Bradley (3yo, No Duplicate) in an OA.

[color=red]Millennium Star (3yo, Rock of Gibraltar) in the Dame Mysterieuse Stakes, for her first stakes win. :slight_smile:

[color=red]Cuckoo (5yo, Foolhardy) in the Land Down Under Stakes. She’s for sale at auction in a few weeks. :slight_smile:

PLACES:
[color=red]Fool For You (3yo, Foolhardy) in a  NW1, behind Celtic Crystal.

[color=red]Etched In Gold (6yo, Government Secret) in an OA.

[color=red]Claire de Lune (4yo, Highland Laird) in a NW3.

[color=red]Thats Not My Point (3yo, What’s Your Point) in the Dame Mysterieuse Stakes, behind Millennium Star.

SHOWS:
[color=red]Crimson and Silver (3yo, Highland Laird) in a NW3.

[color=blue]Macbeth (3yo, Prince of Wonder) in a NW3.

FOURTHS:
[color=blue]Lord Nelson (5yo, Cigar) in his steeplechase debut in the Hal’s Hope Handicap. He could probably use at least one more furlong, but a good first outing.

[color=blue]Bandwagon broke his maiden today in a crushing 10 length victory in a NW2! He’s a massive 3yo (17.1hh); looks like this could be his year.

[color=blue]Greatkingsofmen ran 3rd/6 in his Maiden SC debut.

[color=red]Magic Lable managed 5th/14 in an OA.

Three out, with two off-the-board finishes and one victory. That would be[color=red] A Dreamy Sonata, pulling off her second win in two starts with a 3/4 victory in an 8f turf allowance. Wish her SF was a little higher but wowee, she might do some things this year.

Also brought home a nice Turn n’Burn filly in [color=red]Ember’s Glow, who finished 4th in an 8.5f dirt claimer. She is disturbingly tiny despite having tall parents but I’m chalking it up to her late birth date. Can’t wait to figure out what she can do.

I really like to be lucky with claimers at the beginning of the year! ;D

This time I claimed [color=red]Akasha, 3yo filly by WCh. Gotta Go (G) out of NCh. Always A Princess (B), bred by Clover Springs Stables. She’s my second horse bred by this stable and first out of a mare with NCh. title. Unfortunately, Final Furlong switched her to steeplechase after just three flat races (all very successful). But her dam was a really good steeplechaser so we’re not going to cry about that. Akasha finished 2nd/6 in her claimer.

[color=red]GCh. The Woman In Black finished 3rd/12 in Hal’s Hope Handicap, running against many tough horses. And I think that I worked her too hard before the race. Again. She’s really special!

[color=red]On The Road Again was disappointing today, finishing 10th/14 in her NW3 allowance.

Congrats on getting her. :slight_smile: I put a claim in for her as well, but am kind of relieved not to get her (the last thing I need is more pretty broodmare prospects :wink:).

And yes, the FF script is relentless in who it decides to enter in what races. Clearly it’s a sign from the Random Number Gods that this mare should jump.

Better day then it has been. We sent a bunch of our regulars out for rest and our 3yos are still finding their running legs

[color=red]I’m Not Alone (3yo AP Indy) was switched to SC a few starts ago, she ran 2nd

[color=blue]In A Pickle (3yo Whats Your Point) ran 2nd in a large field, his best placing so far

[color=blue]Nobleton (4yo, Point Given) ran 3rd in the Aqueduct Handicap

Me too, also got too many broods (and prospective ones) so glad the code didn’t like me today. Good luck with her, Hilda :slight_smile:

I was looking at her Also but I have way too many broodies! Lol

Looks like I was really lucky! :smiley: Last year I bought [color=red]Ch. Crownette this way :slight_smile: and two years ago - [color=red]GCh. Private Party  ;D

My first ever stakes winner came from a $5000 claimer, sometimes it’s a great way to pick up nice ponies :slight_smile:

The stakes runners did great! ;D The rest not so much…

[color=blue]Ch. Alfresco ran in 6.0f Gr. 3 San Miguel Stakes for 3yo (D) and placed 2nd/10. Really hoping this guy makes it to be a stud. He’s on his way!

[color=blue]Ch. GoToThe Devil ran in 8.5f Gr. 3 Hal’s Hope Handicap for 4yo+ (SC) and placed 2nd/12. This was a really pleasant surprise! This makes him stakes placed. Great start to the year with a win in an OA and second in a stakes.

[color=blue]Bold Dreams ran in 6.5f Allowance for 3yo+ (T) and placed 6th/6.

[color=red]Ch. Hello Goodbye ran in 8.5f Allowance for 3yo+ F/M (SC) and placed 11th/14. Possibly over her prime… One more race will tell if she’ll become a last minute broodmare this year.

[color=blue]Acapulco Gold ran in  9.0f Allowance for 3yo+ (D) and placed 12th/12. I’m not sure what to do. He never really had a prime, but he may be over it anyway at the young age of 4. A race or two will tell if he’ll be retiring this year.

I got Tomahawks in a claimer :slight_smile:

8 runners sent out, a definite all-or-nothing day:-

4 Wins
[color=red]DashingCoronaRose, (3yo, Worth my While x By By Birdie) 1/6 in a Claimer at Aqueduct. Broke her maiden. Still For Sale.
[color=red]Ch. White Sand Beach, (4yo, Almost Home x Dayatthebeach) 1/10 in the G3 Aqueduct Handicap at Aqueduct. Her second SW overall.
[color=blue]Ch. Glorious Victory, (3yo, Magic Glory x Decisive Victory) 1/10 in the G3 San Miguel Stakes at Santa Anita. His third SW overall. He will probably be aimed for the US Triple Crown.
[color=blue]Ch. No Guts No Glory, (4yo, Magic Glory x Risk Away) 1/10 in the G3 Tramway Handicap in Australia. His second SW in his last three starts. Earned his Champion status with this win.

Also Ran
[color=red]Beautiful Rumor, (4yo, Rumor Has It x Sunset Beauty) 12/14 in an NW3 at Aqueduct. Should have scratched her from the race as she had an “F” for Energy yesterday.
[color=blue]Ch. Painted Raven, (5yo, Slew O’ Scots x Painted Desert) 8/12 in the G3 Hal’s Hope Handicap at Gulfstream.
[color=red]Mirror Twin, (3yo, Harvard Bound x Backwards Image) 8/10 in the G2 Santa Catalina Stakes at Santa Anita.
[color=blue]Ch. Casting Couch, (4yo, TakeMeToHollywood x Back Streets) 6/10 in the G3 Land Down Under Stakes in Australia.

In addition, we claimed [color=blue]Executive Dreamer from Final Furlong after he won his Claimer.

Mixed bag today!

[color=blue]WINS

[color=blue]Quest For Victory (Crystal Rainbow)  won a NW1 today, making him 2 for 2 this year and giving him his only 2 placings ever! hopefully he is just a late bloomer like his sire

[color=green]Ch. Take A Punt (Moonopoly) is still running well in his 6th year yay! This guy earned me most of my income last year and I hope he hasn’t finished for a bit yet. He normally prefers turf but he still won well on the dirt with an equipment tweak, looks like he will be even better once back on the green. I have already managed to get two of his little brothers so hopefully they follow in his hooves!

[color=red]PLACES

[color=blue]Bet On Octagonal is a 3yr half brother to Take A Punt and already showing he likes the same kind of conditions. This is his third 2nd placing in a row, I think he will do better over 10f+

[color=red]Ch. GoWithYourHeart was second in the 6.0f Dirt Gr. 3 Land Down Under Stakes. Although I had my hopes up I was pretty sure
Cuckoo would be too much. Still i think she will have a very good year

[color=black]Other

[color=green]Ch. Romancier was 6th/12 in the 8.5f SC Gr. 3 Hal’s Hope Handicap. He does much prefer distance but it was a pretty poor performance overall. He has been slowly sliding  downward since his debut. I think he really needs an equipment change but seeing as he needs his full 20 day rest getting it right may take a long time yet!

Glad GoWithYourHeart is running well for you :slight_smile:

Man! What are Ya’all feeding your horses?

Shanthi? Lewis? Steph?

Lol, we have not managed 1 win yet this year.

Though, we can report a positive today because Smokin’ Devil did manage a 3rd in his stakes race boosting our broodmare Smokin’ to (17.3 pt) Platinum status.

Ha. My method this year is:

  • find any race that looks like it might fit the horse once they’re at A energy (usually I wait to find what looks like an ideal race, this year I’m trying more variety)
  • if they’re not at A fitness, train them pre-race to get fitness to at least B
  • send them home or to a boarding farm immediately after each race for some rest (even if it’s only a couple of days until they’re back at A energy)

So far it seems to be working. :slight_smile: Time will tell, though, this may just be the shotgun approach, with this many entries. (I’ve run more ponies this year than in 2012, and almost 2013! Scary.)

Do you make any difference when training sprinters or stayers?

I don’t, I just pay attention to energy/fitness. Endurance horses are a bit more tricky to find races for (same with the ones that love 6f too, I suppose).
