03/30

Finally a decent day  :smiley: Glad to see the return of the English season. 7 out, 8 came home with two winners, three seconds, a fourth and a fifth.

[color=red]Flora MacDonald (Point Given) and [color=red]Beautiful Basic (Turn N Burn) finished 1st and 2nd in an NW2 for 3yo fillies on turf. They had three starts between them last year without showing much so hopefully more to come this year. Finished a nose apart.

[color=red]Crowd Teaser (Alydar 5yo) won her OA for fillies on dirt with [color=red]Send Me Flowers (Sadlers Wells 5yo) a nose back in second. [color=red]Sleep Easy (Rumor Has It 4yo) was a couple of lengths back in 4th.

[color=red]Romance N Honour (Alley Cat) finished 2nd in an NW1 for 3yo fillies on dirt, her first OTB placing.[color=red]Doll Face (Rahy) was 5th.

[color=red]Choose To Forget (Cross Roads 6yo) was claimed for $5000 and she’s been sent to Blue Smoke.

6 runners, no wins, however, all 6 were OTB.

2 Seconds
[color=blue]Final Mystery, (3yo, Magic Glory x Lady of Mystery) 2/10 in the G1 Victoria Derby in Australia.
[color=red]G.Ch. Boundless Train, (4yo, Strike It Rich x By Honor Bound) 2/10 in the G2 Santa Ana Handicap at Santa Anita.

1 Third
[color=red]Exquisite, (5yo, Easy Goer x Hail to Beauty) 3/7 in an SA at Aqueduct - For Sale for $20k.

3 Fourths
[color=blue]Ch. Londesborough Boy, (4yo, Lasting Spirit x Painted Desert) 4/10 in the G1 Mackinnon Stakes in Australia.
[color=blue]Ch. Keyboard, (4yo, War Chant x Lady of Mystery) 4/10 in the G2 Hotham Handicap in Australia.
[color=red]Tshotsholoza, (4yo, Moonopoly x Play Those Tunes) 4/7 in an NW3 at Aqueduct - For Sale for $30k.

[color=red]Boundless Train, [color=blue]Londesborough Boy & [color=blue]Keyboard will be headed home for a well-deserved rest before starting their late spring/summer campaign.

Only one out.

[color=blue]Devil’s Spiral (Crystal Rainbow) switched to SC and ran 2nd/6 in his NW1.

Sent out six, brought home seven.  ::)

Mixed results this time.

WINS

[color=red]Holy Smokes (3yo, Holy Bull) seems to have known that I was considering selling her - she won her NW2 and earned a speed record to seal the deal.  She has not liked any combination or lack of equipment up to this point (finicky girl, ugh) and has generally been a pain to figure out.  Today I threw on a random mix of things she “disliked” on their own.  Maybe that helped?  Time will tell.

[color=blue]Ch. Cuchulain (4yo, Irish River) won the G1 Mackinnon Stakes at a desirable 10f dirt.  WAHOO!  This is his third stakes win - he’s undefeated this year.  He’s definitely one to watch.  I have never had so many potential boys to studify, ever.  I’m still waiting to graduate my first one, though.

PLACES

[color=red]GCh. Afterglow (5yo, Affirmed) finished 2nd in an open allowance due to a lack of suitable stakes races.  She has only finished in the top two so far this year in all three of her races, and the others were stakes.  She’s one of my favorites.

[color=red]Ciao Bella (4yo, Alley Cat) finished 2nd in the ungraded Santa Lucia Handicap, officially making her multi-stakes placed.  I’m still trying to convince her that the winner’s circle does not bite.  It’s extra frustrating, given her ICh. HOTY mother and ICh. Eclipse award father.

[color=red]Ch. Always Ladylike (4yo, Giant’s Causeway) finished 2nd in the G2 Hotham Handicap in mixed company.  For her efforts in this sizzlingly fast paced race, she earned our highest speed factor of the day: 334.  :astonished:  She’s a determined mare, and I love her for it.  I suspect she will continue to do big things.

OTHER

[color=red]Mango Frappe (5yo, Sunday Silence) is a hard-knocking mare, but maybe not quite stakes quality.  Today she finished 4th in the G2 Santa Ana Handicap in a very close finish, where all of the top four were only a nose apart.  She’s got heart, even if she doesn’t have the credit of a stakes win or place.  I’m glad I held onto her.

We claimed royally-bred [color=blue]Say Hey Kid - a 3yo colt by silver-rated WCh. Double Cross (we didn’t own any of his get) and out of the amazing gold-rated GCh. A.P. Valentino, making him 1/2 to MSW ICh. Worthy Valentine, MSW Ch. Hot Brown, and MSW Ch. Tuscaloosa.  In theory, we should be able to make something of this fellow.  However, his 5th place finish today in his claiming race shows that it won’t be easy.  Maybe he’ll be one of those bluebloods who can’t run their way out of a paper sack.  Oh boy.

Okay, so I have been neglecting this thread because of I haven’t had anything to report but we had our first good day today (meaning more than one win) so thought it only fitting to finally contribute.

WINS:

[color=blue]Devils Imagination (Devil His Due) Won his maiden race today.

[color=red]Shailaja (Nightfight) won a NW2 allowance.  We bought this girl in hopes of perking her up and getting her a good track record for Nightfight.  Hopefully she will keep it up.

[color=green]Wishing For Luck won his open allowance.  We were worried he peaked at 2 but he’s been hangin in there.

AND FINALLY [color=red]Lucky Danzig got her first stake win today in the G2 Santa Ana Handicap.  This girl has always been the bridesmaid (9 times!) and today she finally got her moment.  Hopefully she now will be able to keep it up. :slight_smile:

I was thinking of claiming him! But finally decided not to.
As for our results - all went very well.

[color=red]Intricate - 1st/6 in her NW1 allowance.
[color=red]Athykea - 2nd/12 in open maiden for 3yo.
[color=red]Hadriana - 3rd/7 in NW2 allowance for 3yo.

Besides, I was watching the real-life Dubai races almost all day (while preparing Easter cake…). My favourite wins were that of Cavalryman - what a beautiful horse! And he had such good manners all the time. Sajjhaa - six years old mare, won with a speed record. And of course Animal Kingdom in the World Cup.

Heh, ended the month of March with a bang, sending out six horses for three wins and two OTB finishes. Excellent haul that allowed us to ship some horses home for a well-deserved break at the farm before the early summer campaign starts.

Poor [color=green]Magnificent Red ran fourth in an 8f SC NW1 for 3YOs. He has seven Aqueduct starts under his belt and needs a break. Hopefully that’ll perk him up.

[color=red]Pink Slew threw in a second clunker, finishing seventh in a 6.5f dirt NW3 for 3YO+ F. She’s also shipping home.

[color=blue]Wise Words surprised with a victory in a 6.5f dirt NW3 for 3YO+. I guess we’ll be keeping him running short.

[color=blue]Little Lion Man finally broke his maiden at 5f on dirt.

[color=red]Farewell to Arms and [color=red]Spice Spice Baby finished 1-3 in a 7.5f dirt NW3 for 4YO+ F. Just wish Spice placed second instead, lol. I guess Spice can only win against other claimers; she’s run third in every race since I claimed her but at least she’s consistent, and doesn’t care if the track is brown or green. Arms is an inconsistent little bugger but she did win by five lengths so I guess we’ll be sticking to sprints from here on out.
